Elementary Verse World Champions
A big shout out to our winners of the Berry Blast Verse Challenge. All five students correctly memorized all 8 verses and received the title as World Champions!
Elementary Parents
This last weekend in our Bible story, the Israelites choose to follow God instead of looking for an easier way in Exodus 13:17-14:31. The theme in class was "I Will follow God and make good choices!" and the Bible verse out of Matthew 16:24 .
Take some time this week and review this bible story with your child and share some mistakes that you have made in your life when you did not follow God (If you don't have any I would be happy to share some of mine:) Follow up your story with how God extending you His undeserving Grace and share the words out of Romans 3:23-25 with your child.
The family devotional sent home this last weekend has a great activity titled Take Up the Cross that will further reinforce this important teaching.
Have a great week! Pastor Steve

Lesson #2 in To the Depths series, your child learned about "I will Follow Directions" and watched a video on the disciples casting their nets on the other side of their boat in John 21:1-14.
Not sure about your house but this topic is the most frequent teaching at my house. My son is at the age of discovering his boundaries and following directions are like Iowa weather, good one day and lousy the next!
Take some time this week and read the bible story to your child and try one of the family activities in the Family Devotional sent home. Consistent reinforcement is the key to this lesson.

Heritage Bettendorf Parents!
I’d like to invite you to be part of an amazing thing that God is doing in the Heritage Children’s Ministry! As a parent with kids in the kid’s ministry, you probably already have an idea of what goes on “downstairs” every weekend. BUT, I bet you didn’t realize the tremendous opportunity we have every week to “be Jesus” in the lives of lots of children AND their families. God is using our teachers and Hub volunteers to do His work. What an AWESOME privilege that is! And if that’s not enough to get you excited, let me tell you about our incredible team of 80+ volunteers…quite simply, THEY ROCK! Believe it or not, 80+ volunteers isn’t enough to cover the growth we are experiencing in the kid’s ministry. So that’s where you can help. I invite you to come sit in on a class or hang out at the Hub during check-in to see, first-hand, what God is up to in our kid’s ministry. I can almost guarantee you’ll be hooked on the “buzz” that you’ll experience! Join us as we Invest in the Next Generation!
Contact Pastor Steve or stop in at the Hub downstairs and ask for Pastor Steve.

Staying Health - Our Healthy Child Policy
Our goal at Heritage Church Bettendorf is to provide a safe and healthy environment for all our children (and our teachers!). Therefore, we cannot check-in a child who is exhibiting the following symptoms on a weekend service:
- A fever of more than 100 degrees F within the past 24 hours.
- A persistent or heavy cough, green runny nose, sore throat (redness, white spots or an accompanying fever).
- Stomach aches accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea.
- A contagious rash or infection of any kind.
- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye).

Children on antibiotics should have been on the medication for at least 24 hours before coming to class to ensure they are no longer contagious.
Please use and direct your children to use the hand sanitizer at the Hub and in each classroom.
Stay Healthy, Pastor Steve

Last weekend your child learned about Peace: I Trust God in Difficult Times! and studied the bible story from Psalm 3 and Psalm 23. What a great lesson during some difficult times in the world. All you have to do is watch the nightly news for 10 minutes and find out this world is a "un-peaceful" place. God never promised to take away our troubles, in fact we are told to expect trials (Thessalonians3:2-4, James 1:1-3, 1 Peter 1:5-7).
Review these passages above and talk to your child about how God wants us to have peace, to give Him control and trust in Him and not our own understanding. What a powerful lesson, I think all of us adults struggle with those things at least once in our lives (for me its daily).
The Family Devotional lists the memory verse and family activities that will help reinforce this lesson.
Have a great week and see everyone at the Heritage Block Party this Saturday from 3-7pm.

PreK/Kindergarten Parents
Last weekend in class we talked about "Friends Help Others" and watched a video about King David helping Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9:1-13. What a great lesson and the teachers did such a great job teaching this lesson, don't forget to tell your child's teacher thanks for sacrificing their time and energy during services.
Don't forget to take some time this week to read the story out of 2 Samuel and maybe even act out the story with the entire family, that could be fun! The Family Devotional had two great activities to do with your child this week that would enforce the lesson "Friends Help Others". Another great activity would be to sign up to help with the Heritage Block Party this Saturday, email Gracie Howard and ask how your family can help out.
Next week lesson will be #8 and the last lesson in Spy Chase. Starting November 7/8 we will be starting a new lesson called To The Depths! Check out some of the short clips from lessons here.

Elementary Lesson #6 - Kindess & Gentleness
Elementary Parents,
last weekend your child learned about the importance of Kindess & Gentleness: I will treat others the way God would want me to treat Them! In class we watch a video about King David's Kindess and Gentleness to Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9. You may ask, who is Mephibosheth? (I asked the same thing at first) He was the man who was crippled in both feet and King David blessed him with farm land and place at his dinner table for the rest of his life.
Take some time this week and read your child this story again and share with them someone in your life who showed you kindness and gentleness. This is a hard lesson, not to teach, but to do in our culture. Kindness and Gentleness is usually considered a weak trait but God sees it as a strength!
The Family Devotional has two great activities for the who family to take part in and don't forget to send bring back the signed Devotional this weekend for a special prize!
Have a great week and make plans to attend the Block Party on October 31st.

PreK/K lesson # 6-Friends Stay Together
Parents of PreK/K children,
last weekend your child learned about why its important for "Friends to Stay Together" and watched the story of Rush and her good friend Naomi in Ruth 1:6-18. Take some time this week and read this story again to your child and talk to them about how friends in your life have been there for you.
Two great family activities to reinforce this lesson is on the Family devotional that was sent home this last weekend. These activities will not only help with lesson but also help with burning off some excess energy!

Speaking of Friends Staying Together, don't forget the Block Party on October 31st at Heritage Bettendorf Campus from 3-7pm. Invite your friends to this 1st annual event and have a great time with the many activities, rides and great food from Chick-Fil-A. More info at http://www.heritagepumpkinpatch.com/
Have a great week, Pastor Steve
